Projection Mapping and Britt Bust Update Numero Whatever

11/23/2015

I did a test run on projection mapping in zbrush for the Britt bust texture using a junk lowpoly version of the sculpt. The texture is generated from several views of her face. I threw on quickie UVs to test the face which is why there is stretching on her shoulders. I really really like projection mapping and how well Zbrush works with Photoshop in this regard.
Top is best render with perspective. Left is BPR render, and right is Best Render with the mesh and perspective turned on. I don't have eyes in yet so her eye texture is just projected into the socket.
Playing with fibermesh in Zbrush. Kinda hoping I can use it to generate hairplanes/textures. But just playing in general cause fibermesh is fun :D
I'm down in S.fla atm because my mom is in ICU. Getting sporadic work done. Update 3 on my Britt bust
Using this post to test if Weebly will now hookup with my facebook art page properly!Trying to separate out my personal fb stuff from my art stuff.
Let's also test an image!
Turtle dude sketch!
When Weebly updated their platform my old site kind of got borked for a few days so I just decided to upgrade my portfolio to a slightly newer style website layout. I have a bit more to go but I am loving the new format. I tried working on some of my main projects but got distracted by the debate tonight so I just worked on re-rendering my swamp king guy(he needed a slight revamp) and messing around with lighting effects and brushes with this illustration:
The creator of the old 90s comic Battlechasers, Joe Mad, is developing a new JRPG-style game now called Battlechasers: Nightwar and ran a contest to create an original creature for the game world. My concept was an insectoid called Sporea. Below are my process steps and some other process pieces.
I kept bringing my concept into the provided screenshot to test size/proportions and lighting/color to get it to match the game world as much as possible.
Chugging along with this guy. Still Retopoing. Started modeling out some props for his little scene. Threw on some of the stock materials from Marm to get a sense of what it should look like. Going to bring it into Zbrush and do detail work but I have the basic shape/parts blocked out. The gold is waaaay too blown out without a proper dirt map:
Working on this and Sammy around errands and chores. Weekends feel to short. Where did Saturday go?
The thing I love the most about Marmoset is how easy it is to get in and play with lights. I just started retopoing Sammy so these are just decimated zbrush sculpts but just using simple materials I can kind of get a sense of how I want his final colors to look. He needs one of those fake fishtank bubbling treasure chests to stand on. I also didnt realize that the gels dont need to be gray-scale which is how I usually applied them. I used a wave photo my dad took a while back and got this beautiful ocean refractive bounce light. After playing around with generic wood textures I realized I want his peg leg to have a bit of metal on it. I think blending wood into the metal will look really pretty, and it makes more sense that he would put his weight on a metal peg. Wood would eventually crack. I'm probably overthinkinbg this; he's a starfish with an eye patch after all :P
Detour project time. I started a bust of my roommate, Britt on Monday to see how well I work off photos. Coming along so far. I managed to capture her eyes and nose really early on and that helped along the rest of her head shape. The closer I get to a more realistic portrayal the more creeped out I get haha. I'm fighting the perspective the photos built into her form so I keep going back and forth using shadows from the photos to check my form in zbrush.
Progress shots and photo overlays. The overlays have really helped me pick out what I need to shape. Hair and eyebrows are placeholder for reference. At this point I hadn't worked on her lips or ears yet so they look really derp :
