In February 2016, Jace and I met at the Fort Worth Stockshow and Rodeo. We met through my cousin, Madison White, who was already friends with Jace. Although our families go way back! Jace's Dad, Cotton O'Neal and my Dad, Steve White, grew up across the fence from each other in Quanah, TX. My dad and uncles have bragged about the O'Neal's for years. One of my favorite stories is when my dad said that he use to go on cattle drives with Cotton and all his brothers. My dad always bragged about Jace's grandma, Essie, making her homemade tacos and sweet tea. Both the O'Neal's and the White's have known each other for decades, so it was fate that Jace and I would eventually meet.
Not only did I gain a relationship with Jace, I also gained another beautiful addition to my life, Channing O'Neal!
In 2016, I was finishing my Bachelors at Tarleton State University while Jace was working at FedEx, so there was many road trips back and forth from Stephenville to Quanah! I graduated in 2017 and continued my education at Texas A&M University College of Dentistry in Dallas, TX. So our long distance continued for another 2 years. God bless Jace for his patience! May 2019 could not have come fast enough so we are finally in the same town!
On April 7, 2018, Jace decided to come see me in Dallas and wanted to take me out on a 'fancy' date. If you know Jace, you know fancy doesn't come out of his mouth often! Jace and I usually have plans every single weekend so it was very unusual for Jace to want to surprise me. That night we got an Uber to Reunion Tower in Dallas (the big ball in the skyline). In the car, the song 'When I Said I Do' by Clint Black came on and at the time I had no idea that we were getting engaged that night. We decided that should be our song for our first dance! Reunion Tower was gorgeous and it definitely was 'fancy' as Jace put it! We ate dinner and just as I thought we were getting our check, the waiter brought out a plate of dessert that said 'Will you marry me?' and of course I started bawling! Jace got down on one knee and who knows what he said because I was crying too much to hear! Of course I said YES!!
